After obtaining her Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from the University of Hong Kong, Dr Joyce WL Sun had been working for the legal profession for fifteen years, during which she had the opportunity to have contact with different walks of life and had cultivated a deep concern on issues of social and political interest. Witnessing the drastic changes in Hong Kong in recent years, Dr Sun constantly reflects on how Christians should engage with the larger non-believing culture, hoping that Christian communities can face their challenges and witness their faith with courage and serious discernment.

Dr Sun is an alumni of CGST. After serving Shone Tao Church as a pastor for two years, she went to Edinburgh, UK to pursue her PhD degree in New Testament Studies. Her thesis deals with the question of how the early Christians devised their strategies to engage with the surrounding non-believing world through reflecting on the Cross and their Christian identity on earth. Dr Sun hopes that her research can assist the Church in discerning its position and mission in society. She aspires to explore with students for a model of Christian social engagement which is consistent with biblical teachings and, at the same time, appropriate for the Hong Kong context. Dr Sun also hopes to have a place in equipping a group of Kingdom workers, who can bless the Church and Christians at large with cultural sensitivity and maturity, and have the ability to discern society’s need for the gospel.
