Leaders in church and para-church ministries find that most of their difficulties providing leadership in the Christian community revolve around personal, emotive and relational dynamics. However, because of the nature of the role, many leaders do not have a place to deal with these issues with the result that their ministry is hampered and at times damaged. This course, open to those who are in leadership roles or are training toward that end, will focus on content and process allowing participants the opportunity to look at leadership from the inside out, explore their own dynamics and understand how these dynamics will influence their leadership. |

Within the field of NT studies, the history of the study of Hebrews has been called a 'Cinderella story' - a bit of a mystery tome without clear origin or lucid purpose, overshadowed by study of Paul and the Gospels, yet with some admirers of its style, which is superior to other NT literature, its lofty Christology and its inspiring spirituality. Though the last two decades have seen her 'come out of obscurity and ... on her way to the ball' (George Guthrie) in the academy, she is, ironically for a letter that is a homily, still often absent from the pulpit. This course will seek to profile her major theological themes by means of exposition of key passages in a manner that will seek to prepare the way for her coronation in the pulpit. Investigating themes like Christ's essential deity and messiahship, his true and vicarious humanity, his Melchisedecan priesthood and his atonement will uncover their relevance to a number of debates in contemporary theology, as well as for pastoral matters like salvation, assurance, sanctification, earthy spirituality and restoring Christ to the centre of the church¡¦s worship and mission. |

Together with the other Latter Prophets, Isaiah testifies to the intense spiritual struggle facing Judah over the crisis of the fall of the Davidic kingdom. Readers may follow the lead of the multiple headings, and the carefully crafted literary structures of the prophetic scroll, to recognize five major historical events that have shaped the canonical book spanning three centuries from the death of Uzziah to the rebuilding of the Jerusalem temple. Even during the critical time of divine judgment, the Lord has walked his people through the darkest hours with His comforting words, not just showing them the way forward, but more significantly, interpreting for them the ultimate goal to be reached in this strange work of His loving faithfulness. |
